Sign My Petition To End Condom Use In Gay Porn
14 April 2013 | 9 Comments
Today I got inspired to start a petition to end condom use in gay porn. I mean – why not? I was watching some really hot videos off Sean Cody – videos where the tops would cum deep in the bottom’s ass and then it would leak or squirt out of the bottom’s hole. I was thinking if someone as mainstream as Sean Cody can go that far – really getting into bareback breeding fetish – the why can’t every one else just at least ditch the condoms and go raw?
I mean it costs about $20 per HIV test. If producers are worried about their models becoming poz – just test them when they come in for the shoot. It’s not like $20 is cost prohibitive. And models who are taking a lot of loads and a little worried – they can go on PrEP until their sex life calms down. There really isn’t a good reason to keep using condoms. I guess there’s the “routine” STDs – but (at least for now) they’re all pretty much curable. And life isn’t zero risk… If a guy wants a zero risk life – then maybe he shouldn’t be a porn star.
Anyway, I assume you guys are all in support of porn being bareback – so check out the petition and sign it… If you’re a blogger or have an adult-friendly Twitter or Facebook account – please ask your friends and followers to sign the petition. The short URL you should use is http://bit.ly/117R0YK
I’d love to see 10s of thousands of guys sign. If I can get a lot of guys signing I’ll push the survey within the porn industry to see if we can get some producers to think twice about rubbers.
I think your fetish for hiv transmission isnt shared by everyone that watches or works in porn. PrEP isnt 100% effective, hiv tests arent necessarily accurate right after exposure, and maybe some people do porn for the money and couldnt give a shit about what your fantasy is. You make it sound like they deserve to be infected if they are working in porn. It seems like sometimes you downplay risks and obfuscate facts willfully because you want guys that are ambivalent about bareback to make decisions that will lead to their infection. I like aspects of your site and have nothing against bareback and/or poz guys but some of the things you come out with seem cynical and malicious.
I get that,I love bb porn..you havent done anything miraculous by pointing out that people like that.
But it seems like what youre saying is the viewers preference should take priority over the *choice* of the studios and actors. I can choose to watch bb porn or porn with condoms. Porn actors can choose to do raw scenes for studios that shoot bareback stuff. What I got from what you posted is that you want all studios to go bareback just because thats what you like, and if the actors are worried about hiv, well they shouldnt be doing porn.
Condom porn still makes a ton of money so people are obviously still watching that too, despite the availability of bare porn.
I guess I dont understand the point. People shouldnt have to watch condoms in porn because it reminds them of hiv,so force the studios to not use condoms?
Although I also hate watching condoms in porn, I also know that going all BB would be a mess, first It would mean to “out” and “separate” a LOT of gay porn performers who prefer to keep their poz status unknown, (what you don’t know doesn’t hurt you) and that obviously means not allow them to work for the big $$$ companies anymore, (look at Jeff Palmer, Carlos Morales, Jason Tyler, and many others…. Michael Lucas and ChiChi have always assured they would NEVER go BB… and not many truly hot-poz guy wants to do treasure island or desert knights, they rather just wrap a rubber on.
RawTop, I for one will not be signing your petition as it is currently presented.
Your petition reads “there are times when even testing and serosorting may not be necessary”. I think this statement is reckless & disrespectful to the performers.
As someone who performs in & produces bareback porn, I would not be comfortable with the $20 test you reference.
We use the HIV DNA Test by PCR & test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea & Syphilis. The cost for our testing process is considerably more than $20 per person.
You stated that the above “routine STDs” are pretty much curable. That may be true to an extent. However, they’re becoming more & more difficult to cure everyday.
If syphilis goes undetected for a period of time, you’re in for big, big trouble. We recently had several potential models test positive for syphilis & they were none the wiser. If we hadn’t tested them, they’d likely still have it and would be out spreading it to god knows how many people.
We do our best to avoid those “routine STDs” in the first place. That goes for our bareback, non-bareback & oral only scenes.
Yes, being ashamed from HIV should a thing of the past, but that shame exists mostly because there is still a huge discrimination and stigma out there from people who -are still living in a 1984 mentality- and think HIV is something they can catch with casual contact like they would catch a cold, (just heard a story of a + woman who’s drink was served in a plastic glass, yes really) and would never have any kind of sex -even with condoms- with someone confirmed being poz, I have known several of them, sadly some of them highly educated professionals with degrees and all, and being treated like an alien for something that is part of your DNA and you will never be able to change really hurts. Also remember that most of these porn stars work escorting, and clients assume they are negative because they use condoms in their films and/or during their sessions… or just because they look healthy and “too hot to be sick” I guarantee you most of them would freak out at the truth. Just take a look at rentboy, where most profiles say “safer sex only” but we both know the truth. So if you can’t beat them join them, or even better: make them believe you join them, and sell them that fantasy of being neg- and-safe-only if thats what they want to see and/or hear. So, In my opinion and conclusion I feel like making a petition to end condoms in porn equals making a petition to end the stigma, discrimination, ignorance and get REALLY educated about HIV, which sadly is not happening, at least not for now.
Personally, I think there’s room for both kinds of porn. I don’t think that condoms should be either required or forbidden. The condom fans could cite the antibiotic resistant strain of gonorrhea floating around, and the lack of research into new antibiotics, as cause for concern, and while condoms are not a perfect solution, they do at least reduce the risk of some infections. (I don’t think I need to argue the other side of the coin, against mandating condom use, because you already do that so well and I don’t really have anything new to add.)
I think we all benefit when there’s an array of options available. Comprehensive sex ed is more effective because it includes abstinence as an item on the menu, rather than being the entire menu. There’s an incredible range of kinks and fetishes in human sexuality; before AIDS hit the scene, there actually was a condom fetish (not very popular, but it existed) among gay men. I think we would all be a lot better off if we would stop stigmatizing each other’s preferences, and I think that condom use in porn is more than just a relic of a time when HIV infection usually meant certain death. I know long term monogamous couples who continue to use condoms for a number of reasons, from force of habit to comfort to easier cleanup if the bottom is messy. Why shouldn’t they have access to porn that reflects their habits and preferences?
All that said, though, It would be nice if the actors in condom porn could be, in general, as enthusiastic and turned on as the actors in bareback porn, which is rare in the porn I’ve seen.
